The Montalcino region is located south of Siena where a particular clone of Sangiovese, called Sangiovese Grosso, thrives. Production of wines from Montalcino dates back to the 14th century but it wasn’t until the Biondi-Santi estate began vinified Sangiovese separately in the 1870’s that the story of Brunello began. |
