Tasting Notes: The Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a Valpolicella in name only. Made from a combination of 50% fresh and 50% dried Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, the wine is vinified and then sees racking over Amarone lees for a second fermentation (a process known as Ripasso). Aging for seven years in Slavonian oak barrels before release is unheard of in the region and adds a level of complexity and an ethereal quality to the wine that is unmatched not just in the region but in much of the wine world. Exotic spices, crushed fresh and dried berries, fresh-tilled soil, and wild herbs are just a few of the multitude of complex aromas and flavors in the glass.
Estate History: The late, great Maestro del Veneto, Giuseppe Quintarelli, succeeded in establishing his mythical and legendary estate during an amazing sixty-year career. All of the tradition, love, heart, and soul of crafting one of the world’s finest wines continue at the Quintarelli home and winery in the hills north of Verona. Giuseppe’s daughter Fiorenza, his son-in-law Giampaolo, and his grandsons Francesco and Lorenzo are all keeping a close watch over the family’s legacy.
